OVER A YEAR NO PERIOD

Someone please help me! I am 27 years old and I have not had a period over a year. I have hair growing from my chin and am suffering from mild acne. I am very irritable all the time overweight and have dry patches of skin on my arms that have appeared out of no where. I know my hormones or something is acting up. Out of all the research I have done it sounds like I have PCOS. Its the only thing that I can think of. I have been suffering with this for at least three years. My last menstrual cycle was over a year ago. I need help. Please someone. Dr. Allon if you're out there please consider helping me. I am not trying to get pregnant. I just want to have a period, lose weight, and stop the hair from growing on my face. I do not have any other health problems.

Forum: PCOS

Pregnant with polyps

Hello out there. I had an hsg about 4 weeks ago, and only talked to my doctor about the test last week, who told me my tubes were fine but I have a polyp she wants to remove. I have a hysteroscopy scheduled for the week after next. Well, last night I found out I am pregnant! A complete shock as we've been trying for a couple years. Now I am petrified the polyp may cause me to lose this pregnancy. Does anyone know what the rate of successful pregnancies with polyps are? Thank you!
Forum: Infertility

PCOS+Insulin Resistant+questions

Right off, let me apologize for my long short story here.

My husband and I just recently moved to the Houston area and I'm trying to find a Doctor. Let me start by saying that I've never seen an Endocrinologist, I've never even heard of them until today.

I first went to an OB when we were trying to conceive unsuccessfully. She then referred us to another OB/Infertility Dr. who diagnosed me with PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I'm not 100% sure of the diagnosis, but I could have them fax my file to review for a second opinion. And I'm not sure that there isn't some other problem that is also contributing. I was put on Metformin 750 ER, and take them twice daily. Other then that they told me to try to lose weight and started fertility treatments. I also saw a dietician, and made some rather subtle diet & exercise changes. Mostly switching to diet sodas if any, and had to eat more because I wasn't eating enough.... This was almost 2 years ago that this whole process started. I was then 290 pounds. I am now 254, and seem pretty stuck there. It's been a super slow loss. I skip periods rather regularly, but I do sometimes have them on my own. I would like to know if it's possible to ovulate on my own or not, and if I did, if it would be the months I menses on my own? We just moved to this area, and we are hoping to find a Dr. that can say more than 'lose weight and come back to see me'. Losing weight is proving to be a difficult task in and of itself.... which doesn't seem fair considering how quickly it came on. Has anyone here seen Dr. Allon? and if so how personable is he?

I have many other questions but mostly regarding second opinions and other possible causes for various symptoms that do not relate to PCOS, maybe thyroid? severe dry skin, milky sticky breast fluid, bad bad headaches, joint pain (possibly from weight gain), quite a few more... alot going on that just somehow has to be related to eachother, but it's not listed anywhere for PCOS symptoms.... anyone else having anything similar?

Forum: PCOS

Choosing a doctor and starting this journey

Me and my husband had our first appointment recently with a fertility specialist (Not Dr. Allon). He was nice and we are ready to start the diagnosis in my next cycle.
I was doing some research today and found that according to the ART success rate report published in 2006 by the department of health and human services he has a good success rate BUT has performed considerable fewer IVF procedures than other doctors in the Houston area.
How did you choose your doctor? Should I worry about IVF success rates at this stage (we haven't had a single diagnostic procedure yet)
Has anybody come across a flow-chart of how to diagnose, treat, and deal with infertility? I would like to know what to do at each step...so lost!

Thanks

Susana

Forum: Infertility

Abnormal Bleeding!

I used to be a past patient of Dr. Allon; thinking about seeing him again despite the long drive. He's a magnificent doctor. (I hope he reads these posts.)

So, I've been having abnormal bleeding since March 1st and it's not associated with cramps or any abdominal discomfort. The flow is not heavy and sometimes it may stop for a few days; only to return again.
With that said, I recall a point in time when it had stopped for a few days. So, my husband and I made some loving. But, than I started bleeding a few minutes later. I cried in my husbands arms and he told me to make an appointment with a doctor that could see me earlier.
So, I took his advice and I had an appointment yesterday.
I told the doctor about my symptoms:

Abnormal Bleeding since March 1st
No pain during sexual intercourse with my husband
The urge to urinate and the feeling of not emptying the bladder completely= new symptom
Leakage of urine=new symptom
No cramping
No fever
No abdominal discomfort
Sometimes, I felt a searing pain while bleeding though.
Sometimes, I would feel an urgent burning sensation inside my vagina. (He said it was because of the blood. But, what if it's a yeast infection, cancer, PH imbalance, vulvar dermatosis, lack of hormones? I asked myself, shouldnt I get a vulvar or vaginal biopsy done?)
Irregular menstrual cycles, sometimes no menstrual cycles for 2 months at a time.
I've had an endometrial biopsy done, last year, no cancer.
A polyp removed in my past, by Dr. Allon, not cancerous.
Normal Pap Smears

So, anyway, I had another pap smear done; with an HPV test. I also got a pelvic exam, Transvaginal Ultrasound and a pelvic ultrasound or sonogram. I also have bloodwork to be done on Monday; since I wasnt fasting.

Bloodwork for Monday:

CBC w Diff W Pit
FSH and LH
Glucose, Plasma
Prolactin
T3 Uptake
Thyroxine T4
Testosterone
TSH, 3rd generation
Cortisol

But, I'm still bleeding. I have High Blood Pressue and it's still not controlled. My family doctor is trying to find a medication that can control it. (With Azor 5/20 mg, it's still at 140-160!)

I told the doctor this, but he still had me go on Birth Control pills; to stop the bleeding. He put me on Loestrin24Fe and has me taking:

3 pills a day for seven days.
Than 2 pills a day, for 7 days and than 1 a day, for a week.

I have high blood pressure. The pamphlet says not to take Loestrin24Fe; if I have uncontrolled high blood pressure.

I wonder what Dr. Allon thinks. (Like I said, I used to be a patient of his. But, since I live in San Antonio, I cant drive so far to see him and I regret that I can not live near a great doctor as him. He was the best doctor I have ever seen.)

Okay, before I start feeling too bad....I just hope everything turns out fine. I've had abnormal bleeding in my past and Dr. Allon discovered the polyp and removed it. Thankfully, it was non-malignant. After that, my menstrual cycles were normal again; especially since he put me on Metformin, 500 mg, 3 times a day. I WAS EVEN OVULATING! (But, I had to stop taking Metformin because the doctors I have come across, here in San Antonio, dont understand the use of Metformin and every one of them has wanted me on Birth Control Pills instead! I have even had doctors tell me that I dont have PCOS!)

It's so frustrating.

Hope Dr. Allon can help me out here. I may have to start seeing him again...

Anyone have any words of encouragment here? I can sure use them....thanks for reading.

Forum: PCOS

Hi, I had a hysterectomy last year because of problems due to pcos. I feel like I am going crazy! I still have weight gain, hair growth, hair loss, and horrific mood swings!! I am not on hormones but need to do something.I was told that after my surgery things would get better but they haven't and now I don't know what to do. I am considering trying to make an appointment with this center but can I really be helped? I eat NOTHING but cant loose any weight. That and my crazy moods are controlling my life and I need help. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Forum: PCOS
